They’re Running Out Of Titles For Garfield Books at CollegeHumor. I had the idea while talking about Garfield with my friend Steve, Rosie helped write it, and Owen made it real. It takes a village!
At the beach house in Cape Hatteras where my family used to take vacations, I remember there was a game shelf with slightly sandy boxes of Parcheesi and Sorry, as well as an old, worn copy of Garfield: Food For Thought. Every year we went back, I read that book over again, and again, and again. It never got tired, or less funny to me, and even though I was a huge Garfield fan and eventually bought almost every other book with my $2.50-a-week allowance, I never bought that one. The experience was so tightly bound to that beach house and those early vacations that I never even considered it.
I don’t read the newspaper comics anymore, and I’m hardly the fan I once was. But I still have a sentimental love for old Garfield strips, and the memories bound up with them. This was fun to work on.
