Whoa! Earlier this year my friend Mike and I did some freelance writing / joke contributions for Popzilla, a 30-minute animated sketch show riffing on pop culture targeted at the MTV crowd. At first, having the opportunity to work on anything that might be televised was a dream come true. But as each of us sat down to write, though, we discovered that neither of us knew the first thing about celebrity gossip or any of the stuff they talk about on TMZ. To counter this, I spent three months reading daily updates on all the major gossip sites, trying to sort out who was being catty to who and which boozed-up starlet had flashed their crotch at the Animal Planet Puppy Bowl afterparty. What jokes were left to be made about the Jonas brothers? Why wouldn’t anyone else besides me recognize that Hayden Panettiere’s head looks like an overinflated balloon?

Turns out all that research is about to bear fruit- Popzilla is finally premiering on MTV next Monday September 28th, Mon - Thurs at 6:30pm ET/PT.
